FAQs about the ENVI Technology and System

The following are the Frequently Asked Questions for ENVI Technology and our systems. Click on the question to open the answer.

The ENVI R/O has five important differences: 1) It operates on line pressure, avoiding a costly extra pump, 2) It does not require a softener preceding it (up to 25 grains), 3) It strips out the hardness, but does not take out all of the TDS. It leaves enough to protect the plumbing and allow TDS controlled to appliances to still function properly 4) It runs at substantially higher recoveries than other RO systems (33% to 50%). 5) It is a complete system – designed and ready for easy installations and service

NO. The ENVI R/O typically removes on average 92% of the TDS, leaving enough minerals in the water to protect piping – the end result being similar in quality to RO purified bottled water – such as Dasani® or Aquafina®. Unless the source water is acidic and below 200 TDS initially, the piping should be unaffected.

This system may increase a household water bill, because it uses water to clean water, instead of chemicals like sodium chloride. For a typical household of 4 in Minnesota, this increase will be about $.30/day compared to a water softener. Note that it doesn’t impact the water used on the outside of the home as it is plumbed separately. Also note that the potentially increased cost is offset by many factors, including reductions in the use of cleaning chemicals, no need to drive to acquire bags of salt, no need to buy bottled water, etc.

Besides the obvious advantage of having great tasting drinking water everywhere, clothes will be cleaner, ice will be crystal clear and without off-tastes, your hair will be cleaner and without the problems of mineral buildup, and you won’t see spots on glassware, shower stalls, sinks, etc. You also can reduce the cleaning chemicals needed for your home and extend the life of all water-using appliances.

Primarily, where the home is only used intermittently, like a lake cabin. R/O membranes need to be run consistently for best results. If a home has high iron or manganese in the source water (like from a well), use a pretreatment system from your water dealer to remove these ions. Also, if the source water is acidic (pH 6.3 or less) and has low TDS (below 200ppm), you may want to consider other alternatives before combining a pH adjusting system with the ENVI technology, since you may not need this technology to reduce the TDS level anyway. Keep in mind that these conditions are very rare across the U.S. and Canada and tend to be highly localized conditions.

Drinking ENVI produced water is not deleterious to your health, because it maintains enough TDS to protect the body. In general, your body needs pure water to function properly. Excessive levels of salts and other contaminants in the water (like chlorine) are a bigger health concern than drinking water without those ingredients. The top 3 bottled water companies all use RO for their bottled water. Humans get nutrients from the food they eat, not the water they drink. Purer water helps the body clean out impurities, maintain body temperature and hydrate the blood cells.

The ENVI system and all of its benefits will generally cost 15-20% more initially than a twin tank softener and under sink R/O system, depending on the competitive system. This cost differential can easily be wiped out when you consider the costs of the system over a ten year period, including the cost of obtaining salt, the value of your time driving to buy the salt and putting it into the softener, elimination of buying bottled water, reduced cleaning chemicals – including dish soap, laundry detergent, shampoo, etc., the increased peace of mind knowing that your family is getting great quality water at every tap in the house.

The on-going cost differential for a typical family household of four is about $0.30 per day.

All systems will require periodic maintenance and service to run efficiently and without problems. However, we have over 3,500 installations of ENVI technology in homes and businesses, and the system performance has been highly reliable when routinely serviced.

The ENVI membrane will need to be changed every 2-3 years on average. The carbon bed on the Vitaro system should be rebedded every 5-7 years, whereas the carbon filter on the EI unit should be changed every 6 months along with the sediment filter.

ENVI is a Minnesota based technology company, with on-going sales efforts in a number of states. We are currently launching marketing programs and sales programs to let more people know about this environmentally friendly system with a host of other benefits for its users. You will be hearing more about ENVI in the very near future as we gear up those efforts...but why wait?

The manufacturer warrantees the construction of the ENVI system for one year – 2 years on the pump. The water treatment dealer may offer other options at their discretion. ENVI highly recommends the use of maintenance contracts as a way to insure component replacement and revenues.

Yes. Quantity discounts are available to ENVI dealers/distributors when they consistently purchase multiple units at a time, as we believe in sharing our efficiencies with you. Contact ENVI at info@envih2o.com for further details.
